My Students

I teach at a STEM-focused elementary school. My students are creative, inquisitive, and compassionate second graders. They are learning about community, responsibility, and collaboration in a hands-on STEM classroom. I am inspired by their love for learning and their willingness to push through the tough stuff.

My students are doers, leaders, and our future.

They thrive in an environment that challenges their minds to think outside the box. They love to learn about the world around them, social justice, and human interactions. My students also love art and creating things. Last year we received a 3D printer and students have been creating 3D story characters, chocolate molds with which we made chocolate and mazes. Together with another 2nd-grade class and a 4th-grade class, our students built a chicken coop! They love coding robots we were gifted last year too. One task they did was to turn the robot into bees and show that they could get pollen into their hive. They are very creative.

My Project

We have been using our iPads for a couple of years now and have become quite savvy with them. We use them to write reports, design objects to be printed on our 3D printer, do drawings, use Minecraft educationally and many more ways. As a teacher I have used my Apple Pencil a lot and have found it to make the whole experience nicer and better. My handwriting is great with it and I can draw. Students have picked up on the benefits of such an addition and they have been asking to use mine occasionally. I have been allowing them to do this and am seeing the benefits when they use it. We use a program called BookCreator to make these beautiful books out of our writing and a great addition would be to add some original drawings too. This would be possible with these devices.
