Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Seven hours. That's how many hours my students spend in our windowless school.
My ESL (English as a Second Language) students come from various countries and have all ended up in fast-paced, busy New York City.
Their hard-working parents speak very little to no English, therefore they are left alone to struggle to keep up with challenging curricula in English. Our school has no windows, and students spend a minimum of seven hours in it every day. It can be a little drab. My students are expected to learn English fluently enough to take the New York State Regents Exams in all subjects, and earn enough credits to graduate, sometimes within one year of coming to the United States. I think anyone can imagine how difficult this can be. It takes dedication and hard work to achieve. I provide my students with challenging and engaging materials every day to support their success.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will brighten my students' day. Spending that many hours in a windowless classroom can be difficult. Spending that many hours learning English and studying to pass Regents exams can be even more difficult. I want to give my students a chance to have some fun while still learning. The board games I have requested will give them the chance to interact with one another, practice word creations, all while having a blast. I will use the Polaroid pictures to document their time in the classroom, and I will post the pictures around the room as decoration and celebration of their hard work. The grammar posters will serve as great resources for my students.
Having these resources will bring happiness and educational fun to my classroom.
My students work incredibly hard and should be rewarded for it. I would be honored if you helped me do that!
