Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because they want to make the world a better place for future generations through activism, education and volunteerism. They are inspired to lead and teach others about the benefits of having a garden. My students have very diverse backgrounds and many do not have access to outdoor spaces in their homes.
My students are the next generation of environmental stewards for their school and community.
They want to provide a outdoor garden space for all students to learn about food production and he natural environment. Their outdoor garden will provide a quiet space for students to relax or unwind during the school day.
My Project
Environmental science is best taught in the environment. My students will have a place to spend time outside and see real food growing. They will be able to learn about nutrients and how important they are for all living organisms in real life, not just from a textbook. This project will allow students to experiment and develop a best practice plan for gardening based upon the USDA Hardiness Zone of our area.
Students will host gardening and cooking demonstrations to explain the importance of spending time outside and healthy foods.
My students aim to encourage others to make better food choices for them and the environment. The garden plans they create will be distributed to families as a easy and lost cost to guide for gardening.
