My Students

Our school is often short of supply because of our economic situation. We need some of the more basic materials and some of the luxury ones as well to be able to share ideas with each other in our interactive entrepreneurship course. We believe in rigor and need materials to do it!

My students learn at a charter school in IL.

They have really grasped the entrepreneurship concept and are working towards making cohesive and profitable business plans for presentation along with other schools in the area. I have watched them grow from typical teenagers to savvy, young business people. It is really inspiring to watch them grow and await eagerly to interact with each other on a professional level. They have transformed my classroom from a typical classroom to a learning marketplace (literally) where the main goal is for everyone to move forward together. They take control of the class and provide feedback to each other and help each other more than any teacher in the building can. I wish that you could visit to see it. You would be amazed at the amount of professionalism that exudes in room 211. I have the greatest students ever!!!

My Project

These resources are just a way for them to learn better. In a rationale statement I will list the materials and describe what I will use them for. The Expo Markers: If you refer to the picture of my classroom you will see that we have a large whiteboard and we always use it to list info. These markers dry out fast and we need many of them. It is like putting gas in a sports car, it runs out quick. The felt pens: Students like to use these to evaluate each others ideas when they are put in writing. The electric stapler: We have a manual one that jams. The electric one, we feel, will jam less and it has a bigger capacity for the thick business plan packets. The document camera: Needed to evaluate the plans while saving paper. Everyone will be able to see something without the need to make 1000 copies. A green approach. The Laser printer: is something that we need because when we do need to make copies we have to wait in a huge line (2 day wait) for our overburdened copy center. I think that should about cover it!

These are seniors and they deserve these materials.

Note that none of these things are to make my job easier. They are to make the students learning opportunities that much more comfortable and efficient. This will not only be used this year but will also be used for many years to come. Thank you for helping our humble program.
