Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Imagine a classroom full of 15 year old students excited to learn about Shakespeare. I teach Advanced and Pre-AP sophomores in a program targeted to promote college-bound students. Sophomore year is especially remarkable as these students embark in their first high stakes testing (AIMS). Reading rigorous literature allows these students, who are in need of a challenge, to push themselves and propose self-discovery in education.

Fortunately, my students benefit from a wonderful program geared to help their growth as students but the unfortunate part is the program cannot sufficiently supply teachers with material desperately needed for class. With individual copies of Julius Caesar, my students will be able to dive deeper by focusing on how to interpret the scene rather than following along in a literature book guided by questions not meant to spark gifted and talented young minds.

These books will allow the students to get up in front of their peers and have fun with literature that is constantly labeled as boring or not relevant. Being able to use smaller books without questions clogging up their pages and in turn their minds, the opportunity to appreciate classical literature will be much easier.

With the help from the wonderful individuals at donorschoose.org who truly understand education is priceless, my students will be able to remove the barriers that block the mind and absorb rich discussion and analytical interpretation.
