Help me give my students some great mentor texts. Mentor texts are books that we study to improve our writing. With these amazing books, we'll soon be writing like pros!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are the American Dream. The students at my school are representative of many different cultures from all over the world. Most of these students have come as refugees or with parents who are refugees from war-torn and poverty-stricken nations. They come to the capital of this country hoping for more. My school is a Title I School in Arlington. We all try our best to provide the most relevant learning experiences to the students that we can so they can compete with students from elsewhere in college and careers. This school has a poverty rate of 80% as well as an ESOL (English as a Second Language) rate of 80%. They are some of the funniest, sweetest, most driven children. Please help me provide them with the opportunity to learn the same way peers in other areas of the USA might learn.
My Project
We LOVE to write this year. It is a natural love for most of the students in this class that I would love to nurture.
One of the best ways to become a good writer is to read.
Read often, and diverse books. Many picture books actually contain some of the trickiest writing strategies. Also, books like ‘The Name Jar’, ‘Crown’, and ‘The Day You Begin’ feature main characters that look like and have similar problems to my kiddos, which makes them more engaging.
Please help us get these new picture books to use as mentor texts to help us learn new ways to write! Picture books are not inexpensive, but they're typically engaging, well written, and seem more accessible to third graders. Your help will go a long way towards making these students awesome writers!
