My students need to start the school year with engaging, educational toys to build a positive classroom culture and community. They will build like engineers while practicing kindness and creating a respectful space for all learners.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are Special Education kindergarten/first/second graders in an urban city in Washington. They come from backgrounds where the opportunities are less and the growing up is fast. Coming from diverse backgrounds and neighborhoods, these children are sometimes subjected to poverty and discrimination, yet they attend school eager to learn every day. All scholars deserve access to the best materials and opportunities, and this is the goal of our projects.
When the students are set up for success, with access to quality materials and an enthusiastic teacher, they reach goals they never knew they could reach!
These students are interested in math, science, reading, writing, history, life and the world around them.
They have unique personalities, are funny, serious, dedicated, strong and determined students. They need guidance and love, and especially people they can count on to believe in them, so that they may recognize the power they have within themselves!
My Project
During early elementary years, students learn to engage with one another in productive ways. Learning from each other in group building and engineering projects encourages students to practice useful community skills, not just listen and do what the teacher says.
The goal of this project is to excite young engineers to build and be creative as they develop their individual interests and grow as team members.
Using all kinds of blocks - logs, magnetic, suction cups, stacking, Legos, puzzles - students will use math, early reading, functional and vocational skills to grow their ready minds and bodies!
The educational toys in this project will guide scholars to use skills they are learning and mastering even during free choice and break times. These tools maximize our learning throughout every moment of the school day.
