My Project

Eagles Pride Cafe will provide my special education students with the opportunity to take ownership of being part of a drink production business that will allow them to share happiness and excitement throughout our total school environment.

This business will provide real-life application of executive functioning skills, many core academic skills, financial literacy skills, as well as presenting multiple opportunities to practice effective communication skills.

The students are reading the color printed and laminated order forms and following the directions to fill the order with a Kcup, creamer flavor, sweetener of choice, and stirrer based on a color coded system. Other students will practice basic writing skills by logging the staff orders to ensure accuracy during delivery. Before production begins each Friday, students will practice good handwashing techniques. Then the real fun begins.

While delivering the product to the teachers, students will be able to use their preferred mode of communication to have a friendly engagement with staff members. They will also have chances to improve their socialization skills in non-structured interactions with peers as we travel the hallways making the deliveries. They will use the Keurig with picture cues in a work system station to brew the pre-ordered beverage for the staff in our building.

After our delivery is complete, students will sort the currency obtained for the week by the students who are working on recognizing coins and their values. The money will then be counted by those who are working on currency counting goals. Our weekly totals will then be added to find the sum of our earnings. As we have to refill the cart throughout the year, students will practice subtraction skills based on the cost for supplies. We will also be graphing the orders to find the most popular and least popular drink preferences.
