Eager Minds Seek Chromebook Computers!

My students need a class set of Chromebook computers for their core classes!

My Students

I teach 180 brilliant 6th graders in a Title I middle school in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to the challenges that generally come with learning in a high-poverty setting, many of my students have special needs and are English Language Learners. Despite these circumstances, my students are some of the most intelligent, thoughtful, curious, and eager young people I have had the pleasure of working with.

In my social studies class, we strive to study history in a way that celebrates multiculturalism and is anti-oppression.

My sixth graders use their own diverse experience to enrich our studying of history and are developing essential critical thinking skills to make them lifelong learners and advocates!

My Project

We are half-way to having a class set of Chromebooks! Having a computer for every student would transform their classroom experience. We would be able to conduct research projects, explore digital literacy, have immediate access to current events, and engage in digital, instantaneous assessment. Because the 6th grade core teachers work so closely together, a class set of computers actually means computers in all core subjects: social studies, English, math, and science.

Donations to this project will improve our classroom by moving us one step closer to providing each student with a computer during class.

These Chromebooks will allow students to research the information they need and practice the skills that will enable them to master the common core standards. But, most importantly, a room full of Chromebooks will allow students to see our classroom as part of the future they are working towards instead of a relic from education's past.
