Students have been exploring watercolor over the last few weeks. We are painting from nature inspired photographs and using what we learned in our sketching unit to apply to watercolor portraits. I always notice how students are more open to experimentation with painting, specifically watercolor as it's not as intimidating as other painting medium and for especially those who don't think they can draw. Watercolor allows for a certain abstract experimentation that I find all students enjoy practicing in class. Being able to instruct them with quality materials makes a big difference and students have been very thoughtful in helping maintain and clean-up our supplies. I am really excited to showcase our nature portraits in the hall. This unit helps students understand that we all can be artists.
