This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the 4th quarter we focus on the individual in society. What better way to discuss that, than by reading dystopian novels? I think that giving students choice in what they are reading, increases the chances that the students will enjoy reading and be able to relate to the story.

These novels will be used to give more choice for literature circles in class.

By adding fresh, modern texts to the curriculum, students can learn the same themes and lessons from a different perspective. By using different books for each literature circle, the students can share with each other about the what ifs of society that their specific book illustrated. This leads to deeper meaningful discussion where students are opening their minds to worse case scenarios in their society and they can start to think of what they as an individual or collective group could do to ensure their future does not end up like the characters in the book.
