My Students

We use dictionaries all the time,for spelling activities, and for definitions. We have dictionary races and do activities with the guide words. Ensuring that each student has a up to date dictionary in usable shape is essential to provided students a quality education.

I live on a remote reservation in Montana.

We are a small rural school with limited resources. All the dictionaries in the school are in rough shape. I would like a new set to use in my room, plus share throughout the school. We service students in grades K - 8 and using the same dictionary throughout the school would help students transition easier.

My Project

We will spend less time taping the dictionaries together and more time exploring the actual dictionary. Students will be able to use the same dictionary in the classroom and throughout the school. This will aide in consistent definitions which we help me grade papers faster.

Students will be able to explore words they do not usually use.

Students will broaden their vocabulary and discover a new way of saying the same idea. Students on the reservation in general are very limited in their exposure to other ideas or ways of doing things. By challenging to use the dictionary, I hope to broaden their writings to include things and events outside their world.
