As a school on The Hill, our children come from all different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. We are one of the few dual language schools in the District, but also one of the highest needs schools. They are enthusiastic, excited, curious, and come to school everyday ready to take chances.
As children of the 21st century, they are fearless when it comes to technology and learning new things.
It is our job as their teachers to prepare them academically, socially, and now technologically, for the ever-evolving world.
As a dual language school in the nation's capital, we are always trying to come up with innovative ways for the students to practice another language. They are so eager to learn and get excited, especially when it comes to technology. A colleague told me about the amazing and interactive program, OSMO, that she uses in her class.
By incorporating OSMO into our classroom, students will be able to hear, speak, read, and write in both languages which will help lower the achievement gap in all areas, as well as get them ready for the ever-evolving and culturally diverse 21st century.
By allowing our students to use OSMO to practice all of these skills, we know they will be even more successful in contributing their language knowledge to their future.
