My school is a Title I funded school and serves many low-income families. Fundraising can be difficult within our community because many families do not have extra funds to donate to the school.
My students are a diverse group of children each with unique backgrounds and educational needs.
Many of these students are reading below grade level and require special interventions, accommodations, and modifications to be successful in the classroom.
As a teacher in a Title I school funds for classroom supplies and expenses are very limited. Although I do my best to support my students, I am not financially able to provide everything they need or benefit from educationally.
My Project
My students use dry erase markers daily for math and literacy practice on their individual white boards. Through the use of their individual white boards and dry erase markers, I can quickly see and assess each students' level of understanding on a skill such as simplifying fractions or identifying prefixes and suffixes within words without wasting valuable resources such as paper and creating more waste.
Students also use dry erase markers as they work in learning stations with peers in order to practice and review important skills an strategies.
The learning process does not occur without practice and repetition. Dry erase markers have become an invaluable resource for student practice and formative assessments.
