Having tables in the classroom is a big part of building classroom community and student collaboration. Our school is an AVID school. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. A large component of AVID is student collaboration. When students share a common work space, it fosters communication and a sense of classroom community. To learn more about AVID visit www.avid.org. By replacing our outdated student desks with tables, students will become more organized through the use of their AVID binders and less distracted by both the noise and the contents of the bulky desks. A well organized student is a more successful student. Students will share commonly used supplies such as markers, crayons, and scissors through the use of art caddies. This simple act teaches children to take care of all belongings and to share with their peers.
