My Students

Our students are great kids who have made big errors in judgment. They are temporarily attending an alternative learning environment in order to stay on track with their studies and to get back to their home schools after having received a disciplinary consequence for a bad choice.

Most of our students have experienced trauma in some way, shape, or form.

That is why our faculty and staff are learning and implementing Trauma-Informed Care strategies to help them. We view these students as "diamonds in the rough". and we know that our students need lots of love, encouragement, and support in order to continue to grow social/emotionally and educationally.

My Project

When students dress for success it starts off their day setting them up for success. Our school has a dress code of solid blue or black polo or button down shirts; khaki pants; a belt; and closed-toed shoes. This dress code is unisex and ensures that all students are properly covered so as not to draw attention where attention shouldn't be or distract from learning.

It is a requirement for students to be tucked in and to have a belt on so that no shirts are riding up and that pants are not sagged -- ensuring modesty and appropriateness in our school environment.

The more modest dress code allows the students to feel more "professional" while they are assigned to our school. We did have a period of time when young men would wear neckties and dress shirts but we have standardized the dress code to more inclusive for both the young men and women that we teach. The belts are sometimes forgotten and by having adjustable belts to loan for the day, this keeps the students in their regular classes and out of the PASS class (in-school alternative to suspension class).
