We have been using the new games and resources provided to us during our Interpersonal Skills Day. These activities have been a wonderful way to help our students practice important social and communication skills in a fun and engaging environment.\r\n\r\nOne specific classroom activity involved students playing the games together while practicing how to have appropriate back-and-forth conversations. Students learned how to take turns speaking and listening, respond appropriately to one another, follow the rules of the game, and play fairly. They also practiced being respectful when they won or lost and learning how to communicate with their peers throughout the activity.\r\n\r\nWhat made this experience especially meaningful was seeing students who may sometimes struggle with social interactions become more comfortable engaging with their classmates. The games provided a natural setting for students to practice interpersonal skills without feeling like they were simply completing a lesson. Hardy was electrical when I put up the new chew toys for him and offered him a Timothy Hay chew stick. It is so funny to watch them and even more soothing for troubled souls to hold and have something to love when in therapy sessions.\r\n\r\nI was speaking with our Licensed Mental Health Therapist and she was so excited to see the bunny supplies. She shared with me that the students that have been hesitant to come for therapy are feeling WAY more comfortable in coming to her office because they know that Hardy and Cocoa are available to them when they do. It makes me happy to see that the rabbits doing the job for which we purchased them.
