Our school is located in a small, rural community. Almost 50 percent of the children in our school are from low-income families. We serve 385 students each week in our art specials.
Our students need basic supplies such as markers, crayons, pencils, scissors, paint brushes, and glue sticks for their art projects.
These materials will be used again and again with multiple groups as the children expand their creativity during their weekly art classes.
Art is a favorite subject for our students. It is particularly loved by many students who struggle in other areas such as reading and math. These students especially enjoy participating in art projects because it gives them a chance to shine. This boosts their confidence and encourages them to maintain a love for school in general. We have noticed that our younger artists especially love sketching and coloring, while our older students enjoy having the opportunity to paint and try other creative media which is less commonly used.
The materials I am requesting may seem very basic. However, they are things which will enhance the school experience for all of our students. With tight school budgets, these widely used items are often in short supply in our school. These supplies will give our students the tools they need to "draw" on their creativity!
