I teach in a rural public school. Our town has one small grocery store, a hardware store, a convenience store, two small family-owned restaurants, and not even one stoplight. We are at least 40 miles from the nearest supermarket, big-box store, or chain restaurant...let alone any type of museum or planetarium. Many of my students have never traveled much or had opportunities to see and experience things that other children have.
