Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Williems is one of my children's favorite books. This interactive story is all about the Pigeon's life long dream just to drive the bus! As I read the story, my students delight in chiming in "NO!" every time this Pigeon tries to persuade the reader to let him drive the bus. This is truly a treasured tale in my class. As the school draws to a close, I want to give each of my first graders a reminder of how much they have grown this past year. I would like to give each of my students a copy of this book to have as their own. This beloved classroom classic will certainly be treasured, especially since many of my students do not have access to books at home. The familiarity of the book is perfect for many of my struggling readers - they can read the book independently because they are so familiar with it. This book truly reaches my students across all levels. It would be a wonderful memento of first grade for all of my students to have the opportunity to own a book of their very own. Thank you.
