Our students are a bright group with diverse interests! As the library, we are at the heart of the school and there's not a single student that doesn't pass through our world at least a few times a month. We are a STEM school, and we also offer an Agricultural Education program as well as many AP and dual credit college courses.
Our school is in a relatively rural town, and we are the only high school in the area.
This allows a community feeling to remain a top priority of our staff. It is this community spirit that sets us apart from many schools around us, and it's something we're very proud of.
My Project
The materials requested for this project will allow our library to start a compassionate maker space.
Students will learn skills like sewing, knitting, and crocheting as well as use their free time at school to create items that will be donated to organizations who support a variety of groups.
The groups students will have the opportunity to make things for include abandoned pets (toys made from cloth and tennis balls), homeless people (clean and comfortable sleeping mats crocheted from plastic yarn), children in Africa who need clothes and shoes (pants, dresses, and shoes sewn from a variety of fabrics and patterns), those battling physical and mental illnesses (postcards of encouragement, soft hats for cancer patients and lap blankets), and those grieving the loss of a loved one (memorial items and teddy bears).
These supplies would allow students to immerse themselves in small acts of good on a daily basis, which is something we hope they will carry with them beyond their time here.
