Your support has had a powerful ripple effect throughout our school community. The book's gripping story and timely themes sparked important conversations not just among students, but also between staff and across grade levels. What began as a simple book club read has grown into a true reading community—one built on empathy, curiosity, and connection.\r\n\r\nFor many students, Under the Surface provided more than just an engaging mystery—it gave them a voice, a sense of belonging, and a reason to show up and be part of something bigger. As one student shared, \"Reading Under the Surface made me feel like I wasn't alone. Talking about it in our book club helped me open up and connect with people I never thought I'd talk to. It's more than just a book—it brought us together.\" The Book(ish) Hangout Society has become a safe, welcoming space where students feel seen and heard, and your contribution helped make that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746786946486,"projectUrl":"project/building-belonging-one-book-at-a-time/9321682/","projectTitle":"Building Belonging One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Porzycki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9687800"},{"teacherId":3673864,"projectId":9315059,"letterContent":"We are so lucky to again get to have the materials to provide cards to two local nonprofits and offer students a meaningful way to earn community service hours via our library with this project/program. After learning how to create a card set and getting into the \"swing\" of things, more than one student has exclaimed that this is \"actually fun!\"\r\n\r\nBoth nonprofits the cards are going to, our local arm of Meals on Wheels and an organization called Project Self Sufficiency that supports local single parents, are grateful and excited to receive more cards that have that handmade touch. They are then able to pass on these cards to their clients. Students who are making the cards are impacted by knowing that the cards they are making might be the only one a person receives on their special day, and with that in mind they've taken care to make the cards as nice as possible.\r\n\r\nThis is teaching students more about the little things that can be done with a person's time and talent, that can make a big difference to a nonprofit or individual.
