My Students

The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic situations. They benefit from being able to learn in an environment that is not only middle school appropriate, but also up-to-date with the latest resources. They need activities and books that peak their interest and help them learn as efficiently as possible; they enjoy hands-on lessons and working in groups. Their group work typically involves collaboration through the use of technology in ways that increase their knowledge base and development. My students also learn best when they are provided with materials that motivate them to succeed and work through real-world problem based challenges.

My Project

As an ELA teacher, it is so important to me that my students have access to engaging material to read on a regular basis. This project will allow me to update my classroom library with books that are award-winning in our state of South Carolina or are consistently off the shelf in our school library.

Having access to the best and most exciting books available is the easiest way to encourage my students to read.

Although I have a library for my students already, it's difficult to keep it up to date and interesting on my own. This project offers my students books that I myself have already read and enjoyed, that my students have fought over in the past (because they wanted to read them so badly!), and ones that my students are constantly asking if I have available.

I love that I have so many students who enjoy reading, and with the addition of these great titles, I know that I can continue to grow a love of reading in my classroom for all of my students.
