My Students

Our school is a dual language immersion (DLI) school. There are so many wonderful things that come from a DLI program. One slight drawback is the traditional side (English) of the program.

Often times, our class sizes are almost double that of the DLI classes.

Having such large class sizes of 32 to 36 students has created challenges during the Covid pandemic. It is much more difficult to get students into small groups. During the pandemic, we have worked more on computers than ever before. This enables me to work more closely with my students in smaller groups.

You can imagine the noise that can be made by 32 to 36 computers making noises at the same time, but my students do the very best they can. The pandemic has helped my students become more computer literate, but they don't have all the tools they need to be succesful. Many families have lost jobs or, at the very least, lost time at work. This makes even buying a pair of headphones a problematic extra expense.

My Project

Okay, let's face it. Everyone is stressed right now. Imagine being in a classroom with 30 or more students and trying to concentrate while 30 or more Chromebooks are making noises of exciting learning experiences all around you. You are dealing with cheap Dollar Store earbuds that are constantly breaking and not being able to focus on your individual learning.

These headphones will allow students to focus on the great digital resources that are available like Imagine Math, Lexia, Generation Genius, Prodigy and more.

There are also videos from sites that enhance learning and that are assigned through Google Classroom.

Covid has changed the way we teach and learn. Having these headphones will allow my students to focus on their learning. During a pandemic, parents can't afford the little things like headphones and earbuds. It affects every part of our daily lives, but we can make it better and prepare our students to be lifelong digital learners.
