My Project

First grade is a big year for learning new things. Some of the things that I am trying to help them navigate and learn is feelings and emotions. They are already thoughtful and sweet kiddos. I want to help foster positive feelings and help them learn different ways that they can make a big difference in their community.

Small acts or gestures can change someones' entire day.

I plan on introducing the topic of doing for others for my students. We can discuss how you don't always know what someone is going through, but you can always be generous and kind. I will then introduce the materials. I will explain that we are going to create some art pieces that we will give to either front line workers, or others who might need a picture to brighten their day. They can help me decide who to give them to. We would talk about how we think it will make others feel. I would also introduce the canned goods and explain that another thing we can do for others is to actually give food to those who might not have much. We can discuss the food box in our area. I would then let the students know that if they would like to bring any canned items they are more than welcome to. After the window closes for the students to bring in additional items I would take them to the box to place the items for those who need them. Small actions equals big impact.
