My Students

My students are natural born learners. I truly believe that all children want to learn and want to know more. They are naturally curious from the moment they enter the world, and it is my job to make them want to know more.

This year I have a very diverse class.

I have children who have ADHD, autism, ODD, gifted and students who live in poverty. I also have Hispanic, Russian, Vietnamese, and a child from Guam. This is a regular education class, and I treat them all as individuals. This group of children is the hardest working group of children I have ever taught. In fact, these students are amazing. They have such potential and are truly hard workers.

My school is a Title I school, but this school is astonishing. The students are loved and challenged. The teachers are motivated and want what is best for all the students.

My Project

In the second grade, students study different animals and compare and contrast their life cycles. I feel the best way for them to compare and contrast is to raise a few animals from egg to adult and really get to be part of this life cycle.

Children learn best by doing, and this project will allow each child to take care of tadpoles and butterflies through the entire life cycle!

We can show children videos and pictures or diagrams of what the life cycles look like, but will they really remember that? If you want a child to learn something they have to invest in it. What better activity than watching and recording the changes in tadpoles and caterpillars!
