All of our 5th grade students are enthusiastic learners with varying personalities. They love to collaborate with their peers and show their creativity through various mediums. They are aimed at excelling in school while overcoming obstacles they face in their daily lives.
Our Title 1 students come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, and we pride ourselves on inclusivity.
They show excitement to engage in new experiences. We are extending our learning outside of our classroom to our community and world by learning about the past and assuming responsibility for the future.
My Project
Our trip to the Museum of Tolerance will include a tour of "Finding Our Families, Finding Ourselves" exhibit. Students will be learning about historical multicultural figures, immigration, and heritage. All students deserve to see themselves in historical narratives, and for them to be able to connect to their own history allows them to have a deeper connection to the history we learn in class.
Culturally enriching field trips are vital to our students' education, helping to broaden learning outside of the classroom.
The Museum of Tolerance will connect with our social studies standards such as immigration, human rights, and democracy. This trip will enhance our Deep Learning Project with our students focusing on the homeless crisis that our nation is experiencing. By learning about human rights and injustices on the field trip, our students can apply this information to their inquiry projects to promote change.
Our classes use Community Meetings daily where we teach lessons that provide students with tools that enable them to take an active role in their social-emotional growth. By visiting the Museum of Tolerance, we can bridge these tools with our enhanced learning of empathy and acceptance for all.
