Diverse Graphic Novels to Encourage Reluctant Readers
Help me give my students a collection of highly engaging graphic novels to choose from, including stories such as Ms. Marvel and Black Panther in which a diverse community of students can see themselves represented.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a creative group of thinkers who like to read texts that expand on their ideas and experiences. They desire for success in expressing those ideas, and reading books they find personally engaging is crucial to inspire them to work towards the skills necessary for success in school.
Most students are reluctant to read due to not feeling confident in their abilities, and too often don't have access to texts that engage their interests and galvanize them to develop reading and writing skills.
In the past, school hasn't been a positive place for students to feel successful in their academic endeavors, but that's beginning to change. My students have a variety of personal reading interests that need to be welcomed and embraced in order to best encourage effort.
My Project
Graphic novels are too often an untapped resource in classroom curriculum. It's an extremely popular medium that students greatly enjoy. The titles I've selected have the ability to connect with students in that they feature stories from diverse populations and mix dynamic visuals with accessible and highly relatable prose.
Being able to provide students with texts they'll wholeheartedly enjoy is crucial to promoting confidence in reading.
I want my students to feel that school is a place for them to explore their personal interests and feel inspired to develop the academic skills necessary to create their own future. Students in my classes have struggled to meet grade level standards in English in previous years. By providing students with books that capture their interests, student will build confidence and consider Language Arts a study in which they can flourish.
