My Students

This is my first year teaching. My students have already become my family. I love all of their unique qualities and personalities. It makes me so proud to watch the class grow and develop into strong, independent and confident readers. Many students enter fourth grade reluctant to read, but by the end of the school year they feel much more confident. Its amazing being able to encourage a student to take risks and discuss books - books that may fall out of their comfort zone and books that may prompt them to think differently about difficult topics. This reminds me of the strength that people have when they bring their voices together. I will use these books to help encourage thoughtful conversation.

My Project

These books will be used to help give greater representation of minorities as well as provide deeper understanding of different perspectives. This is my first year teaching and my classroom community is primarily made up of ELL students.

These books demonstrate a wide variety of characters that come from many different geographical locations, ethnicities, and cultures.

As the pandemic comes to an end, its important to remember there is so much still to be done. This starts with educating students with high-quality materials.

I plan to use these books for quality read aloud time and mini-lessons to teach all the important 4th grade skills and strategies. These books will provide my students the opportunity to learn and grow academically while expanding their perspectives.
