This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love my students to pieces and want to see them do well in life. They are 14, 15, and 16 years old and are working hard to make it through ninth grade. I am so proud of how hard they work!
They are wonderful and crazy-in-a good-way and have so much heart and soul.
My students are fiercely loyal and will always protect each other. My students come from a lot of tough living situations and don't have much time or money to read for pleasure. They also don't have a lot of time to read to learn - I want to give them the chance to do both.
My Project
These books will be used in my English and reading enrichment class. Students will have the opportunity to read aloud, be read to, and delve into a few books that are important, relevant, and interesting to them. Short stories and old textbooks only go so far, so if we want to create a love of reading, we need to give them things they'll love to read!
Students will have the chance to see their own experiences reflected in literature and to understand how others think and feel as well.
They will be able to relate these books to their lives, and Spanish copies will make them accessible to all of my kids.
