I am overjoyed to have books in my students' first languages. While some teachers have copies of books in Spanish, they often do not have books in any other languages, such as French, Creole, Swahili, or Arabic. \r\nAs soon as the books began to arrive, students began to read them. Some even asked to take the books home during the summer months to improve their English. Rather than begin at the plight of our history in the America's we learned about the contributions these great American's made and the advancements they contributed to in the world of science. \r\n\r\nEighteen special education students had the opportunity to create college-level research, go out into the community and shop, as well as present a Blacks in Wax Museum that had over 30 walk throughs between the elementary and Jr./Sr. High schools. These school supplies (construction paper, fidgets, highlighters, and colored pencils) increase student engagement and learning. Your contribution will significantly enhance our learning environment and allow students to engage in creative projects with ease.\r\n\r\nAt this time of year, many of the supplies that I purchased for my class are running out. This donation will ensure that my second semester students have the materials they need. Having access to these essential supplies makes a real difference in the classroom, and I am so appreciative of your support.\r\n\r\nMy students were especially excited to receive the fidgets & manipulatives. Your generosity has allowed me to acquire class sets of composition books for all of my class periods. My students have already started using these notebooks for their Daily Journal notebooks for the 2024-2025 school-year. Anyone familiar with Collins' philosophy on teaching English / ELA will know that one of the best ways to improve students' endurance with writing, reading, and analysis of text is to lead them in writing every day. That is the goal of these composition books. They are being used for Do-Nows, notes, Collins Type-1 (low-stake) writing assignments, and other forms of formative assessment. \r\nYou donation has already increased student engagement in these types of assignments and has made it easier for me to grade them all in a timely manner.
