Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school. About 50% of the population are ELL students and 95% come from low-income families. We strive to give our students the best education possible and give them the same opportunity that middle to high-income students has.

I teach early childhood special education (ECSE).

My students are speech impaired, students with autism, intellectually delayed, and non-mobile. Most of our students are labeled speech impaired. Right now our students need materials for face to face learning. Our students are returning to their campus and need to follow distant learning. This means our students will have their area in a classroom. They will not be allowed to play in centers with their friends. We will provide materials for them to keep in their area. It will be difficult for our special needs students to share materials. We are asking for materials for each child to keep in their area.

My Project

Our students need to maintain their distance from their peers. The materials will allow them to continue learning thru play in their area.

Two students will play with the same math manipulative, such as the number bots, or letter manipulatives, such as the hammer the letter, at the same time and will allow them to communicate their exploration with each other.

Even though they are not allowed to play together, they can communicate with each other. This will increase their verbal skills and develop their cognitive skills.

It is a difficult time for these students and we need to allow them to continue their education.
