Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school district is closed for the remainder of the school year and possibly into the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. My students have very limited internet access, technology, school supplies, and basic self-care items.

As a Self-Contained Special Education teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I know that my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things uncomplicated and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are sixth through eighth-graders who have been diagnosed with moderate disabilities (Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities).

Each of my students is a unique and eager learner.

In addition to learning reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, my students work on behavior, language, and social skills. We practice communication, waiting appropriately, frustration tolerance, personal hygiene, and many more skills. This is a major struggle for them to do at home with very limited to no resources.

My Project

These kits will equip my students with the basics they need to complete school work, expressive their creativity and emotions, and take care of themselves. These supplies will help students stay energized and focused throughout the day.

These supplies will help my students process their feelings, express their creativity, and keep busy.

This is an extremely difficult time for everyone, and as children who already had limited access to their basic needs it is even more difficult. I want to help give them something to make them feel special and give them hope.

Help my students maintain their academic skills and explore new talents to bring back to the classroom next fall.
