As a Self-Contained Special Education Teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My students are kindergarten through second graders who have been diagnosed with moderate disabilities (Down Syndrome, Microcephaly, Intellectual Disability, etc.). Each of my students are unique and eager learners. In addition to learning reading, writing and math, my students work on behavior, language and social skills. We practice communication, waiting appropriately, frustration tolerance, and many more skills.
