Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm the case manager of amazing kids from Kindergarten through 8th grade, most of them are identified with learning disabilities and others with autism. Some of them are in Dual programs learning English and Spanish!!
I've been teaching students with special needs for six years, the last one and this starting one have been with such amazing and special kids in the United States.
I miss them a lot and when I watch them through video sessions I can see the smile in their faces, and as we usually do at school, they want to tell me everything they did at home or the new toys they got. My kids are so special that some of them are capable of communicating with me in Spanish and English.
My Project
Due to the COVID all our amazing community has been affected, from us as teachers to parents and kids, we all are experiencing a huge change. I have to say that all of us are putting in a lot of effort to make it work since day one. Every day I call and receive calls from parents asking for help with tech support or any other issue they might have. Also I make 1:1 sessions with students to help them with any work they might have trouble with, and also make small grade support groups to explain a topic they are working in their grades.
In order to keep it up and optimal, I'm requesting a new computer that I will use during my 1:1 and small groups sessions, helping my students in Math, English, Spanish and any other subject assignments, I will also use it to create videos, slides, charts or any extra help my students might need; to meet families online, attend to staff/IEP meetings and overall improve my students' learning from home experience.
Having a new computer will help me to provide my students with a better learning experience that will motivate and engage them in these difficult times. My objective is to use the most of my working time improving my tech skills in order to offer my students the learning opportunities they deserve.
