Disney World: The Learning Opportunity of a Lifetime

My students need a class trip for 30 students to participate in two Physics programs at Disney World.

In 2009, we are starting a new class: Advanced Placement Physics. This is the first (and in some cases, only) AP class that most of my students will have the opportunity to take in high school. In this low-income community in Louisiana, my seniors have had very few special learning experiences.

My students come to me very disenchanted with the school system. They miss out on the opportunities other schools offer and they rarely see education as something exciting or inspiring.

I want to take these students to Disney World to show them the connection between education and the life they see around them. Disney offers two programs that teach how the parks run based on the properties of Physics. I would like to also give my students the opportunity to design and execute their own scientific exploration while in the parks. This experience will show students that learning IS fun and that science is all around them. It will also give them a sense of ownership and responsibility as they create their own projects.

Your help will not only ensure that my students have the experience of a lifetime, but you will be helping them build self-confidence and empowering them to take responsibility for their learning.
