Digitize Math Class!

Help me give my students an iPad and keyboard to help make lessons more engaging and interactive, as well as teach them to use digital math tools.

My Students

I have a wonderful group of 40 6th graders who are excited about learning and improving their math! Many of my students struggle with math because they do not have the prerequisite math knowledge to understand 6th grade math. We have worked hard to fill in gaps, and over the last two terms have worked hard to make significant learning gains.

Over 75% of my students come from low-income homes and a majority of my incredible students are on free and reduced lunch-they come from various cultures and are full of excitement, curiosity, and passion for learning.

Many of my students come from homes where English is often not spoken.

My students love science, listening to stories, exploring nature, participating in math challenges, socializing, and playing games. Regardless of this pandemic, our goal this year is to continue growing and making improvement, and I know we'll be even more successful with your help!

My Project

Math is a subject that many students (despite their age) struggle with and 6th grade is no different. Implementing educational technology solutions with an ipad can be extremely beneficial for children that fear math.

This iPad and keyboard can help improve my personal approach to teaching.

It will improve my teaching by giving me the tools to build more interactive & engaging lessons with apps that can visually represent math, as well as expose them to and teach them how to use various types of math tools to engage with problems they will see in class work, on state testing, and most importantly, the world.

The mobility of the iPad also will increase students engagement, as it's a tool that's easily passed around the room. Just as students are excited to go to the board and share, but this will give them a different opportunity to demonstrate mastery of digital math tools during math talks. The extended care agreement will help protect this investment if a mishap happens.

This technology will improve online teaching, as it's much easier to write on an ipad and annotate equations than with only a mouse. Additionally, as our classroom's document camera does not consistently work, so with a purchase of a $20 app it will double as a document camera.

With your help, this simple technology will help me modernize my approach to teaching math and digitize their experience so I can better prepare them for 21st Century testing, increase student engagement, improve the quality of online teaching (when necessary), and give us a tool to create a quality and consistent document camera images for math talks.
