Digital Microscopes for a Technological Age in Science Class!
My students need microscopes for a unit in their Biology class. Some organisms being so minute that they can be seen only after significant magnification, which can be accomplished only by a microscope.
Technology is universally, interwoven in virtually every aspect of the modern world and our day-to-day life. It affects how we play, shop, associate, socialize, and most importantly, how we learn. With their countless and growing manifestation in our lives it only makes sense that mobile technologies are present in the classroom to assist in the teaching and learning process, especially in the field of science. However there are some schools that are delaying this opportunity of using technology in the classroom, and my school—although we strive hard to give our students these opportunities—is not ahead in terms of technological capacity.
My students are incoming freshmen with about 75-80% are Native Americans and more than 65% of the population receiving free lunch.
I believe that our students are competitive and have the potential to soar high given the proper education, environment and resources. Further, I think that if my students could have access to technologies that can help them learn science, such us seeing things beyond what their naked eyes can see and deeper into the cellular level, they would be able to understand the mechanism of life and the wonders of minute objects.
My Project
Cells are too small to be seen with naked eyes. Some organisms being so minute that they can be seen only after a magnification of x2000 - x25000, which can be accomplished only by a microscope. It is so because biology primarily deals with the study of cell and its parts, genes and all organisms, that it is critical that for students to have access to a microscope that can assist them in this endeavor.
Without a microscope, biology would not have been so advanced and many diseases would still have no cure.
Therefore, it is highly important that my students will have the opportunity to use a microscope in dealing with these biological concepts.
