Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Tech Kids 4U - I am the Educational Computer Strategist ECS at an Elementary school. I teach Technology Electives and Extension Academy for K-5. The school I work at is an Empowerment school. Empowerment schools are given autonomy regarding governance, budget, staffing, instruction and time with the expectation that they will demonstrate annual progress toward increased student learning. The Empowerment School model was designed as a systemic reform effort to increase student achievement, involvement in the educational process and responsiveness to the ever-changing needs of the community.

Students at my school choose their electives every 10 weeks. The topic of Clay Animation was suggested. We viewed different websites and on-line video examples. The students are so excited and want to have Clay Animation as an option. We brainstormed ideas for our own stories. Our school does not have the proper tools and technology to make this project come to life.

The resources needed to make our project a reality include 3 digital cameras for classmates to capture their still photos of their clay figures and sets. Students will also need an Ultra Flip Camcorder to record each other in action so we can display the video at our April 1st Art Show for our community and parents. My students need 15 flash memory drives to save their work throughout the duration of their project. To save our projects for family and friends students will also need a 100 pack of blank CD-R CDs.

My students would be elated if they were given this opportunity. Students will be able to create clay characters, build their own setting, take their own photos, upload their photos to a computer, and create their very own movie to be viewed by their family and friends at our Art Fair. Students will also have the opportunity to watch themselves working in team environments as they are videotaped creating their projects.
