I have several students still reviewing counting skills so the rocket ship building (numbers/counting) was a huge hit! Also, for my students taking off with addition the airplane addition has been a lot of fun for them, especially living near the air force base they have made a connection to the \"jets\" flying and now using airplane counters in the center. Their excitement is contagious and their love for learning continues to grow with all of the fun new activities.\r\n\r\nWe will be using the picture frames soon to create a special gift for our Mother's Day tea next month, as well as using the pots to plant flowers. Your support has made it possible for us to create more individualized, meaningful learning experiences for students with a wide range of needs across multiple grade levels.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful pieces of technology from this project has been the HP Sprocket photo printer. While it may seem like a small device, it has made a huge difference in our classrooms. We are now able to instantly print real-life visuals for schedules, behavior supports, communication boards, and learning activities. For many of our students, visuals are essential for understanding expectations and navigating their day. Being able to quickly create personalized supports helps reduce anxiety, improve transitions, and increase independence.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited about seeing real photos of themselves, their classrooms, and familiar routines. When they recognize themselves in visuals or see pictures of preferred activities used as reinforcers, they become more motivated and engaged. The instant nature of the printer makes it even more powerful — we can capture a positive moment and immediately turn it into a reward, reminder, or learning tool.\r\n\r\nWe have already seen particular students thrive with this new technology. Some of our students who struggle with communication have warmed to the visual supports created using the printer. They are more willing to make choices, follow schedules, and communicate their needs when they can see real, meaningful images. Other students who experience anxiety during transitions have become more confident using personalized visual schedules made just for them.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the technology, the fidgets, calming tools, and hands-on materials created with lamination and Velcro have helped students stay focused, regulate their emotions, and actively participate in learning. Students are excited to use these tools, and they feel empowered when they can independently choose supports that help them succeed.\r\n\r\nYour donation has helped create a more supportive, engaging, and responsive learning environment. You have given our students tools that not only help them learn academically, but also build confidence, independence, and emotional regulation skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for making such a meaningful difference in their daily lives. While many students may already be familiar with using VR for games or entertainment at home, this project introduces them to new apps and purposeful ways to use the technology for learning and creation. Using a drawing app in a virtual space allows them to scale their ideas in a way that simply isn't possible on paper. Instead of guessing how a small sketch will translate onto a large wall, students can practice drawing at a larger size, adjust proportions, and experiment with composition before ever picking up a paintbrush. This technology strengthens spatial awareness, planning, and problem-solving skills that carry into other areas of learning.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the immersive experience combined with the opportunity to use technology in a new, meaningful way. They are no longer limited by the size of their paper or their physical workspace, they can step inside their artwork and interact with it. Learning how to navigate new creative apps has sparked curiosity and confidence, as students begin to see technology as a tool for innovation rather than just entertainment. Engagement has increased as students are eager to explore, create, and collaborate in this new environment.\r\n\r\nI've also seen some of my more hesitant or perfectionist students really thrive with this technology. Because the VR app allows them to easily undo, resize, and reposition their work, they feel less pressure to \"get it right\" the first time. Students who might typically struggle with transferring their drawings or working at a larger scale are now approaching the mural process with confidence and excitement. It's been incredibly rewarding to see a wider range of learners feel successful and proud of their contributions to such an important, lasting project.","fullyFundedDate":1768070381716,"projectUrl":"project/leaving-our-mark-5th-grade-legacy-mural/9991156/","projectTitle":"Leaving Our Mark: 5th Grade Legacy Mural","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dodd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7373729_orig.png?crop=343,343,x0,y35&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698990033788","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bethany-dodd"},{"teacherId":8037000,"projectId":9603459,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation. Lastly, First graders learn \"Task Initiation\" and \"Organization\" by retrieving and returning their specific tools to the rolling cart.\r\n First grade classrooms are dynamic.
