My students need video lessons I can put on Chromebooks along with interactive tests that go along with Plickers and Kahootz! games and quizzes. The podium would be for the students when THEY teach the class.
DonorsChoose.org has been so kind to my classroom and has generously funded my projects. I have been rather timid with my requests but I know that my classroom still needs a few items to complete our Reading Nook and I hope that I can find them here. We ordered a small sofa (child size) for our classroom and it has become the space that everyone runs to at D.E.A.R. time (Drop Everything and Read) so we need another and a few big pillows for comfiness on the floor.
We are a Title I school, we don't always have some of the technology that schools in more affluent neighborhoods get which is why I have to ask for more for my students.
Some of my Special Needs kids would benefit greatly from chairs that activate their learning instead of challenged them to sit uncomfortably in the same positions. They need to be engaged at every level and thank you DonorsChoose.org for helping with that. So, basically, we need cushions, active seating for our special needs friends and technology, like iPads or tablets and equipment for a listening station. We truly hope that we can find it here. Thank you!
My Project
My students need quite a bit of support and I juggle the small groups as best as I can. Small group learning for children who need a lot of one- on -one support/attention is very effective when they sit with me but when they are required to work independently, it can be challenging. I have found that my audio lessons have a profound ability to drive home the lessons and support their learning. They are simply fascinated me by hearing me read to them on a recording and then looking at me teach another small group lesson in real-time on the other side of the room.
All of my kiddos are visual learners - they're 7 and 8 years old!
Video lessons have been very successful and I can add them to my Google Docs for parents to upload at home. This supports home studies and homework. It also increases the vocabulary and grammar work that we do every day. For some of my ESL parents, it helps them to help to watch video lessons from Google docs so that they can help their child with their homework even if they don't speak the language. Watching me model lessons helps provide understanding which is why the reversible laptop is necessary.
In class, interactive video lessons or SmartBoard lessons on a touchscreen laptop (with my voice added) is a life lesson that gives me feedback on my students' strengths and weaknesses. It would be amazing!
