Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students this year are very creative learners with a lot of imagination and always willing to do every activity in an artistic way. They love to read and the read-aloud or dramatic play are among their favorite parts of the day.
After hurricane Harvey, I have noticed that the resources of some families have become very limited, being impossible for them to buy any extra books for their children.
This is why I would like to provide my students with a collection of Math books so they can have the opportunity to learn Math concepts in their favorite way: reading and dramatizing.
Being a Math teacher of these unique learners, I would like to introduce storytelling in my lessons as a way of presenting Math skills in a different way. Besides, doing this we would be developing the two essential skills of Literacy and Math in a more significant, motivating and creative ambiance.
My Project
Who said read-alouds were only a task in the literacy class? My 1st graders love to read and are always asking for a storytelling time. As a Math and Science teacher, I am always struggling to find the time to do it in our packed schedule.
With this collection of books about Math skills, storytelling might fix so perfectly at any time in the Math lesson.
In addition, we will help our students to develop two essential skills at the same time: reading and Math thinking.
For this reason, I consider these books will be highly useful for my classroom; practicing reading, storytelling and Math at the same time with the last aim of creating integral thinkers and citixens.
