Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are imaginative, enthusiastic, and capable; they're dreamers, scientists, leaders.
My students are tech-savvy on their own, but we need better resources to help us integrate technology as a seamless part of our learning time.
At our elementary school, 94.6% of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 95.4% are under-represented minorities, and 64.3% of students are classified as English Language Learners.
My students deserve the best equipment, the best materials, and the best instruction. I have a long way to go to give them what they deserve, but I'm hoping you'll help me get a little closer.
My Project
A high percentage of students in my class are English Language Learners, and many others read below grade level. In the past, our class has used various video platforms to record and share our thoughts for language development practice--however, our learning wasn't as powerful as it could have been because 24 students trying to record themselves at once led to difficulty producing clear video.
Our class needs headphones with built-in microphones so that we can use recording tools like FlipGrid as part of our routine language practice.
Microphones will help students produce videos with clearer audio, which will help them learn from their own voices and those of others in the room.
One way we are practicing higher order thinking skills this year is through analyzing art. I would like to use these headphones for students to discuss and analyze each others' personal art projects the students create throughout the year, in addition to analyzing and discussing works of established artists. This is why I have also asked for pre-stretched artist canvases in addition to the headphones with built-in microphones.
