In this story, a young boy has many terrible things happen to him, and he often mentions that he wants to go to Australia, to get away from everything. \r\n\r\nSince a couple of years back, I have been providing an \"Australia,\" for my students to visit when they are having a bad time. But it needed some improvements. There needed to be more fidgets, a place to store them, and a cozy rug for students to sit upon. All of these, you helped provide! Of course the icing on the cake has been the weighted koala, for the kids to hug. I think it really helps them open up at the beginning of their school year. \r\n\r\nMy students were very excited when they first saw the easels in our classroom, and now I have opened them up for use with the wonderful tempera stix you helped provide. Their productions come out bright with color, and I appreciate how easy clean-up is, with no brushes to wash. (But, rest assured their will be times the brushes will be at their disposal!)\r\n\r\nBut the children were especially excited when each had their own watercolor tray, and were able to create side-by-side with their classmates, enjoying good conversation all the while. And I was so pleased that the majority of them listened and followed directions to wash their brush each time they wanted to change their color. It made for some bright scenes and designs! I started with letter and number recognition toys. The children were most thrilled with the locks and keys that contained partner letters; some of the children have come back to them again and again! The animal puzzles that involved putting numbers in order were also a big hit! Moreover, the number and letter mazes have also been a-mazing additions to our classroom!\r\n\r\nJust recently I put out the magnetic letter tiles with which they could begin to build words. They have been excitedly putting together their names and those of their classmates!\r\n\r\nNext up will be the toys in which they practice writing the letters: the sand tray and the magnetic alphabet tracing board. For number practice, the scale will also make its debut. The kids have loved drawing and writing with the dry erase markers, as much as they have loved having their own eraser for do-overs. They had a great time drawing a turkey made up of circles for Thanksgiving! The supply boxes have proved so handy for holding pencils and crayons for permanent drawings.
