Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher at a public high school in Colorado which is located in a low-income community. My students' primary disability is SED (Social Emotional Disability). My focus is teaching them strategies to improve their academic, social, and emotional learning. The students struggle with anxiety, regulating their emotions, and positive self-esteem. I love working and interacting with all the students. Each student has a unique personality which makes teaching fun.
My goal is to teach my students the skills they need to help them in their social and emotional well-being.
My focus is teaching them strategies to improve their academic, social, life, and emotional skills.
My Project
I have been teaching for 12 years with the main focus on academics for students with autism and academic disabilities. Starting in 2022, I have been given an opportunity to teach students with SED (Social Emotional Disabilities). I am excited to work with this population of students because I have the ability to impact the students socially and emotionally, now and in their future.
By having this project funded, I will be able to help my students increase their self esteem, help them learn essential skills in the classroom and beyond, and help students deal with anger.
My curriculum is going to focus on social/emotional learning and Trauma Informed Teaching.
