Designing and Growing Hanging Baskets

My Project

We're getting a greenhouse on our school campus! During our first spring, my students will design and grown hanging baskets in the greenhouse. Students will design the floral arrangement, determine how many of each flower needs to be planted, schedule a planting schedule so that all the flowers will bloom at the same time and determine the best conditions for the growth of the flowers.

By spring, students will have learned how to manage a project, grow plants, and calculate costs and plan a budget a project.

During this time students will also be building seed tray tables for the greenhouse, determining how to hang heaters and maximize growing space. This project is a true STEM project that requires students to learn the science of plant growth and use application math to maximize their outputs. Then, we'll have hanging baskets for our community.

I'm so excited to work with students on this project as they see their work grow into a functional greenhouse that will be used for years to come by other students.
