Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is full of amazing students. Ninety-five percent of our students receive their meals through the free meal program. No matter their circumstances, our students rise to the occasion.
Students function best in an engaging, exciting learning environment where their work is meaningful and valued.
They respond best when given opportunities to work on engaging projects that provide collaboration with peers and challenge them to work above and beyond their perceived capabilities.
Students in my program seek the best for themselves and others. They are striving to make this world a better place by taking a stance against all forms of bullying and always striving to do what is right.
My Project
All of our students deserve an opportunity to be able to compete in the global economy today. Many of my students need to demonstrate engineering ability. All students have a school issued device that has video capability, but students are not encouraged to use the video capability to enhance their learning. In my class, the checked out KEVA sets will provide students opportunities to apply engineering skills and demonstrate those skills through video production. Having students work on engineering design, while creating a video will motivate them to become motivated, and creative learners. Through the use of engineering and building skills along with video production students will become more motivated to extend learning practices.
The KEVA building sets will provide students with an opportunity to explore a field of that they never thought was part of learning.
We need to start using all the tools necessary to motivate kids to become better learners. Students from underserved/underrepresented communities need access to materials that will help to develop engineering skills that lead to better problem solving ability. Through these building blocks, I hope to develop learners that are excited to conquer new challenges. I envision students returning to school or continuing distance learning with great enthusiasm. They will view learning as an open avenue with not impediments along the way to hinder their progress.
The hardest task in this project will be the evaluation aspect. Admittedly, it is hard to connect problem solving and creativity to a grade. Instead, success will be measured by student commitment to completion of the task and the learning of new skills and improving on already acquired skills. Videos should improve with their building skills. Students will be more motivated to achieve harder tasks through constant encouragement and engagement.
