Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students will become engineers, designers, and problem-solvers as they create their very own mini golf courses using everyday materials!

In this hands-on project, students will work in small groups to design, build, and test creative mini golf holes using materials such as cardboard, fake grass, toilet paper rolls, cups, tape, and recycled supplies.

They will plan layouts, build obstacles, and then “test play” each other’s courses to see how the design impacts the movement of the golf ball.

This project blends STEM, creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving in a highly engaging way. Students will practice important skills such as:

Engineering design process (plan, build, test, improve)

Measurement and spatial reasoning

Collaboration and communication

Problem-solving and critical thinking

Creativity and innovation

Each group will design a unique mini golf hole, then we will combine them into a full classroom mini golf course for a final “play day” where students rotate through each other’s designs.

For many students, this will be their first time experiencing engineering in such a hands-on, playful way, and it will help them see learning as exciting, creative, and meaningful.

Many students learn best when they can move, build, and create. This project gives them the opportunity to take ownership of their learning while working through real engineering challenges in a fun and meaningful way.

It also builds confidence, teamwork, and perseverance. These are skills that go far beyond the classroom.

With your support, my students will be able to turn our classroom into a hands-on engineering lab filled with creativity, laughter, and learning.
