Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has a very diverse population. Many of the teens come from low income families, some from middle class homes, and others who don't even speak a word of English. They are creative and humorous and are looking for an outlet to share their gifts, talents, and knowledge with the world. They have all the potential in the world, but not much opportunity in the school environment. Upgrading the school learning commons could help them get to where they need to go!
My Project
We started off our school year with nothing more than a green wall for media projects and a newly designed Learning Commons. Up until now, I've done everything I can to give my students the best learning experience possible with what I have. Now, it is my desire to give my students a makerspace where they can freely tinker, explore, and create.
I believe every student should have access to a makerspace.
By having access to a variety of different materials including electronics, design kits, legos, and robotics, students would be able to enhance their imagination, grow in problem solving and design thinking, and develop the necessary skills to succeed in life. Therefore, I am asking for your help to start building up our makerspace with a studio design section that would include four Extraordinaires Design Studio Kits. These kits can help students develop entrepreneurial skills and problem solve as they come up with solutions to meet the needs of each character in the kit. These would be great for my students because many of them love to draw.
