My students have great leadership skills and practical skills stemming from their experiences living in an economically challenged area. Art helps them cope with the stresses they feel and express their feelings in a safe environment. One student who often skipped class recently showed me his improvement drawing eyes and softly expressed his desire to become an artist when he grows up.
Recently we lost our middle school to a tornado in Dallas, TX.
The effect on the students has been tremendously emotional due to being sent to two different schools resulting in separation from best friends and favorite teachers.
Students will be able to easily access the world of visual art through articles targeted at their particular interests and grade level abilities. They will be able to relate to what is happening now in the art world as well as to gain historical art knowledge. The magazine will inspire their personal expression through art by revealing ideas and inspirations from many cultures.
Scholastic has a long standing success in publishing books and magazines that students enjoy and at meeting current student interests.
Their publications are amongst the most popular in my students population who have little access to published articles specifically about visual art.
